Historic Monuments

Hassan Tour

It is the most beautiful and famous monument in Rabat. It was built by Sultan Yacoub El Mansour (12th century). The Sultan wanted to build the largest mosque in the Muslim world. Unfortunately, the works were abandoned after his death in 1199. The tower was to peak at more than 60m, but only reached 44m. It is called the unfinished monument. The Hassan Tower is a masterpiece of traditional Moroccan architecture. His visit is therefore not to be missed

Chellah

Chellah is the oldest monument on the western facade of Morocco, the site houses the intact remains of a Roman city. It has been abandoned since 1154. The Merinid dynasty chose it to build their necropolis there and the work was completed in 1339 under the reign of Abu Al Hassan Ali. Registered since 2012 on the UNESCO World Heritage List, Chellah is a historic site that deserves to be visited at least once in a lifetime.

Kasbah of the Oudayas

The Oudayas is an ancient fortified city, it was built by the Almoravids in the 12th Century, the Almohads then erected it into a kasbah. It was, through the decades the place where the soldiers left for the war in Spain. It is from there that Rabat takes its name Ribat for carriage in Arabic. The Kasbah des Oudayas is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is located 2 minutes walk from the Bahomestay host families.

Rabat is the cultural capital of the Kingdom of Morocco par excellence. It houses several Museums:

Food

Morocco is known worldwide for the richness of its gastronomy. Rabat is the city of good Moroccan cuisine. You will find during your stay a lot of restaurants and snacks which serve to eat all day long and even late at night. Ask your host family to give you places to taste some of the best cuisine in the world.

Nightlife

Rabat offers its visitors a range of places where you can drink tea, coffee, beer. The bars are mostly located in the agdal district, there are dj’s, tapas to eat.
